At Hillside Nursery School, we plan for STEM opportunities in all our enquiry-based learning projects. We believe it is vital to educate our children in the four specific disciplines - science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This provides our children with opportunities to problem solve based on real world applications.
Each year we take part in the Primary and Secondary Engineer Leaders Award where the children explored the question ‘If you were an Engineer what would you do?’
STEM Project 2019
Following a leg injury our Forest School leader struggled to access Forest School. The children, who thoroughly enjoy Forest School, decided to explore the question ‘How can I get to Forest School if I can’t walk?’
Two children were successful in receiving commendations for their entries into the Engineering competition and were invited to attend the Public Exhibition at the University of Central Lancashire (Preston). They both attended the exhibition with their families.
STEM Project 2021
Recently the children took part in a project to explore 'How can we wash our hands in forest school?'
